What is Asia-Dragonfly website about?
Asia-Dragonfly is dedicated to dragonflies and damselflies
(i.e. Odonata) found in the Oriental Region.
The site offers access to a database of photos taken around
Asian countries in the Oriental Region and links to other sources of information
on Oriental Odonata.

Why creating this website?
While browsing the Internet, we found a lot of information
on Odonata. Two major websites are useful portals: one for Europe (http://fly.to/dragonflies)
and a second for USA (www.dragonflies.org).
But for Asia and African species, not many websites have been established.
So we try to fill this gap. We also would like to offer the possibility forget people sharing the same interests to get to know each others (join our mailing list).
With the help of Keith D. Wilson (Asia) and and Klaas-Douwe "KD" B. Dijkstra (Africa), two "sister websites" have been set up:

What do you find on Asia-Dragonfly?
- A database of pictures taken in Asia. The identification
of the subject is given without guaranty as, often, a photo is not sufficient
to establish the species. Discussion is open!
- A species list which allow you to query by taxonomic names, geographical
areas...
- Books and references (URLs) are listed.

How can you participate?
- You can directly contribute by submitting your own pictures. To do
so, please refer to "how to post a photo".
Attention: original pictures only (no scan from books: that's cheating
:-)
- If you have encountered an interesting link on the Internet, please
send us a mail.
- Maybe the subject of a photo is not correctly identified... Post us
a remark.

How to post a photo?
You have a couple of pictures of dragonflies from an Asian country and
you would like to share them? This site is for you.
Your first action is to register.
This is completely *free* and all data is used on for/by this site only.
Once registered, you can log in and access to
the private part of the site.
To post a picture, you need to scan it on the JPG format and you
need to indicate some information like where and when you have
taken this photo.
CAUTION: Don't cheat! Only your original pictures can be posted.
No scan from books or magazines. On the other hand, you can mail us the
reference to this document.
