An exuvia of Anax guttatus (Burmeister, 1839) found early morning in a monsoon drain. This monsoon drain received its first rain water only a few months ago. Before that the drain was dry during the dry season in Malaysia. It is amazing that within few months such a large larval of Anax guttatus fully developed and emerged.

Anax guttatus has a habit of ceaselessly "patroling" a section of a pond almost the whole day, right up to sunset. I took this photo with a flash at dusk when this insect paused just a little while in mid-flight.

It was 2130h and the dragonfly was sleeping along a stream of Northeastern New Territories of Hong Kong.

I used 70-200mm lens with flash to take the picture.
