Anax guttatus (Burmeister, 1839) Photo taken in Tawau (Malaysia) on 2007-02-04
An exuvia of Anax guttatus (Burmeister, 1839) found early morning in a monsoon drain. This monsoon drain received its first rain water only a few months ago. Before that the drain was dry during the dry season in Malaysia. It is amazing that within few months such a large larval of Anax guttatus fully developed and emerged.
Anax guttatus (Burmeister, 1839) Photo taken in Lahad Datu, Sabah (Borneo) (Malaysia) on 2005-08-25
Anax guttatus has a habit of ceaselessly "patroling" a section of a pond almost the whole day, right up to sunset. I took this photo with a flash at dusk when this insect paused just a little while in mid-flight.
